"The name Amethyst derives from the Greek word ametusthos, which from an ancient legend. Bacchus, the god of wine, fell angry over an insult; determined to avenge himself decides the first person he should meet would be devoured by his tigers. The unfortunate mortal happened to be a beautiful maiden named Amethyst. As the ferocious beasts sprang, she sought the protection of the goddesses and was saved by being turned into a clear, white crystal. Bacchus, regretting his cruelty, poured the juice of his grapes over the stone as an offering, giving the crystal its purple hue."
Amethyst is a healing stone, helping to bring calmness and balance into ones life. It helps aid in preventing "over indulgence," and negative thoughts. It can be applied to the individuals needs, and be used specifically to an individual. There is no "blanket" use, as each stone brings out and aids each individually on a personal level. It has been used to help aid in "creative thought," being used heavily by muscians, writers, painters and artists.
